On a cold Tuesday morning, the Epsom based Housing Association found themselves without their cleaners and had to urgently respond to continue servicing their 120 sites across North Surrey. They approached Chequers to come up with a contingency plan to provide a seamless transition due to the loss of their contractor who immediately stepped into the fold. Having met with Rosebery on the Wednesday to discuss their needs, by Friday the Chequers’ team had inspected, recruited for, and mobilised staff to service all 120 sites for an on-going temporary agreement pending the contract going to Tender.

We had originally come 2^ndin the 2010 tender bid by a horse’s nose, but due to keeping our good relationship with Rosebery Housing, we have shown that helps to be customer centric, even if they aren’t your customers!

Three weeks into 2012 and we are really excited as we gather momentum in our Silver Jubilee year. Spring boarding out of 2011, we have several new contracts on the go, and more great news on the way.

Having recently finished refurbishments for client One Housing Group (OHG), Gary and Paul Jeal, our Founders, and Rob Jeal, Electricial and Buildings Division Manager, were amongst the guests as Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, opened Honor Lee and Rokeby House, OHG’s first mental health care and support scheme in the Borough of Lewisham.

The works carried out by our Building Maintenance and Electrical Division have restored a previously discussed office which now houses two mental health and an older persons’ floating support services, providing services and support to over 500 people in Lewisham and Southwark.

Of the scheme, Sir Steve said: “The transformation that has taken place across these sites is truly remarkable, and it is clear One Housing Group’s investment and hard work has paid off. These schemes are now fully equipped to provide essential support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community, which is much welcomed.”

Another year is drawing to a close, and I’m pleased to announce that it has been another busy year for all at Chequers. There have been a lot of changes in 2011, we have seen some staff leave, and welcomed new staff into our family. This has allowed us to further move forward and streamline the business, as well as bring a higher level of focus on our operating costs, in order to make us more competitive in the coming year.

We have again continued to not only retain the vast majority of our client base, but also bring plenty of new business into the fold, whilst other companies are struggling in the current climate. This has been hugely assisted by the hard work and dedication that everyone continues to give, and beacuse of this, we are in the strongest position.

And so as we look forward to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, I am very proud to announce that it will also be Chequers Silver Jubilee.  25 years that wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of everybody involved at Chequers, from our cleaning staff right to board level, and also our excellent relationships with all of our clients.

Sales & Marketing Director, Kate Ward had a brush with Royalty on Friday 18^th November when The Queen and Prince Philip attended the opening of our Client, East Surrey College in Redhill. Kate was delighted to be invited to the opening and following lunch at the College, and especially the subsequent introduction to the Royal Couple.

The Duke commented on our company’s ethos and commitment to ethnic and cultural diversity in the workforce and our passion to provide a polished service to each of our clients and remaining competitive in the current economic climate.

Following this exciting event, Kate said what an honour it was to meet the Royals, and enjoyed the friendliness and relaxed manner with which The Queen and Duke presented themselves during the luncheon.

The contract, which is due to start in November, is for 3 years and we will be providing cleaning services to Home Primes Sheltered and Supported Schemes in the Southern Region.

We now clean and service over 700 entrances for General Needs Housing Stock and in excess of 90 Sheltered and Supported Schemes.

 ‘I know you didn’t have much time due to our building works so you and your cleaners had to put in really long hours this weekend, but we are delighted with the result, you promised me I would say “wow” and I did!’
